1974 Ford Escort mk1 - Upgrades & Track preperation 4
Finishing off the last bits and pieces now!
A big job was getting teh arches fitted.... not a lot to do... bit fiddly,
and the constant flilling, sanding, filling, sanding was tedious to say
the least! Got them done though, and resprayed the wings and bonnet.
Installed an electronic ignition system, to do away with the ecu, finished all the plumbing, interior
electrics sorted out... new rev counter, shift light, rev limiter, ally centre console with master cut-off,
pump cut-off, and all the normal escort switches (and a washer switch to replace the floor pump!).
(Ignition system comprises a Vauxhall type electronic coil, hall effect
ignition amplifier and a converted Polo electronic distributor with modified
internals (modified ignition curve and no vacuum advance) and Vauxhall drive
gear... all nice and simple, better results than a Manta distributor and
easy to install.)
New exhaust system. Replaced centre section and first silencer with 70mm tubing to mate to diamter of downpipe. Exhaust is 70mm all the way to the remaining silencer, where it decreases to about 2 1/4". Sounds great!
Fired it up!
Big grins on everyone's faces as it gruffily ticked over and revved for the first time!
