Car Overview
In this section you can look at our 'kit' car as it progresses. Each section is accompanied by various pictures taken during the build process. Each picture links to a full size image which may take some time to download over a slow link. Each image is accompanied by a paragraph or so of text.
Chassis: Based on the Lotus/Caterham/Westfield-inspired design produced by Ron Champion in the "How to Build a Sportscar for £250" book. Quite extensively modified. Front unequal length wishbones with a live rear axle located by 4 trailing arms and a panhard rod. Coil over shock absorbers all round.
Engine/Gearbox: Ford Sierra 'Pinto' 2.0 OHC. Injection model (better conrods, smoother flowing head design, valves, unleaded seats etc). Weber 40DCOE's (now replaced by Yamaha R1 carbs), 4 branch tubular manifold, bigger pistons, uprated cam, extensively ported, higher compression etc. Ford Sierra Type-9 5 speed gearbox, Ford Capri 'English' axle with 3.89:1 differential.
Brakes: Rover Metro pedal box & servo tower, Rover Metro pressure reducing valves, Austin Princess 4-pot calipers, Cortina uprights and solid discs. Capri rear drums & shoes. Braided hoses.
Other: Ford EDIS distributor-less ignition system, Programmable 3D ECU (Megajolt), Period Smiths instruments. Electric fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator system.
