A kit car saga....

A long time ago in a galaxy far away....

Hold on, no, that's another story! The kit car build started many years ago (1999/2000) and has been dragging on ever since. We've neglected it for long periods of time and we tend to get sick of working on it..

Part 9 - Scuttle, Dashboard, Instruments and Interior

Long time without updates... here's the car as it stands now:

Bodywork basically finished, mechanicals all complete - the nosecone has been modified to fit the lights and indicators and for a bit more clearance. We removed the old electrical fan and fitted a new Spal fan on a relay instead..

Bonnet is done, and there's a new rollbar, interior is fully panneled, the front edge of the scuttel is nicely finished in aluminum along with a new header tank.

We've started to concentrate on the interior, with a view to looking for materials that will let us pass the SVA's stringent radius requirements. Below you can see that we're trying different edging rubber to cover the top edge of the dashboard and scuttle.

Although it doesn't look too attractive, we think this rubber edging should be thick enough to pass the most stringent SVA test!

We've also mounted a pair of standard intertia seatbelt reels in the centre of the car, on a sturdy platform that is welded to the chassis - they're not attached to the rollbar or contact the seats in any way. I don't see these causing any problems. We are also going to fit eye bolts so that we can change to harnesses if we decide to at a later date.

View of the inertia seatbelts as viewed from the front - having read the SVA manual we can find no regulations that state belts must go from the outside in. Also picked up an SVA approved pad for the centre of our new steering wheel.
