Intel 287XL floating point processor. This is one of two such parts that I own. This has a nice printed 'intel i287XL' to the left of the central gold heat spreader. The other 287XL doesn't have this.
The 287XL was a 387SX floating point processor repackaged to work with the 286. It is somewhat faster than the original 287 floating point unit.
