Bought as part of a set of 5x Zentraedi ships in the early 2000's and sat, sealed and unbuilt for the better part of 20 years. These are simple kits, but also one of the only options for the bad guy battleships from the TV show.
These kits were distributed with a random character figure (from the TV show) included; not necessarily one related to the ship model.
Box contents, instruction manual:
Two parts sprues:
Waterslide decal sheet:
This kit contained a figure of Roy Fokker:
Assembly; the larger flagship model is probably the most simplistic of all the old Arii Macross kits in this series - two main hull parts, with a small number of addons. The hull is the most detailed of all these kits, and the seams of the two parts also are mainly hidden by the recess which runs the entire circumference of the model:
Mostly a good fit, though the bow of the ship needed a little bit of sanding down. Not a massive amount, but it would be noticeable if left as-is:
Model sanded and ready for priming:
Primed, ready for pre-shading:
Roughly applied pre-shading on panels/edges/recessed areas:
Main green hull colour added, still needs to be masked and the lower hull colour (a violet/blue/grey tone) sprayed:
Lower hull masked and then sprayed a mix of light grey + French blue (about 70:30):
Small detail parts (external tanks etc.) added:
Gloss coat applied and upper/lower hulls panel lined:
Waterslide decals added:
Now ready for another gloss coat and weathering effects (oils, pastels, etc). Weathering applied and a final coat of sating varnish:
