Space Battleship Yamato Kits

I never watched the original version, but the remake of Space Battleship Yamato in the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 and Space Battleship Yamato 2205 (and now 3199) series (which is really one long series) which came out in the 2010's was really great. Some fabulous ship designs and transplanted WWII naval warfare tactics to sci-fi fantasy.

This is the main 1/1000 model release list that I am interested in. It is not an exhaustive list, but I've tried to pull together all of the information on each of these kits, including example images, painting guides, as well as my build process and completed photos (where available!).

I initially placed a backorder for all of these models in early 2025 with HLJ.com, but after more than 6 months none of them had received any additional stock, so I started to hunt down old stock on auction sites and via proxy buying services for Japan (I have used buyee.jp several times prior to this for electronics and models).

In September 2025 I was able to track down all four of the Garmillas Warship sets (#1 to #4).

This is a list of which models are included as bonus items in the main 1/1000 kit releases, above.

These are mostly items that are not available to purchase as individual kits. I'm not including things like the 1/1000 fighters that are included with the carriers and battleships, as they are part of the main kit itself (i.e. to display on the flight deck / launcher), nor am I listing other 1/1000 ships that are not the main kit (e.g. the inclusion of matching-scale destroyers alongside a battleship).

These were mostly (but not always) released in the same size of similar kits from the mecha-collection list.

• Space Battleship Yamato - bonus model list

Released in smaller scale than the main 1/1000 (capital ships) or 1/72 (fighters) kits, the “Mecha Colle” sets are smaller, easier to build versions of the main Yamato ships. They don't have a stated scale, but most of the fighters are approximately the same size-and-scale; larger (capital) ships vary. These are pretty much supposed to be “fits to the size of the box” scale - with all boxes being the same size.

Gunze, aka Mr Hobby / Mr Color produced a range of pre-mixed paints in the exact shades needed for the various Earth and Garmillas ship designs from the show. They are hard to track down now, but I've listed them here for reference.

This set, CS881, contains the colours used for the Yamato; YC01, YC02 and YC03. YC02 is the main lower red hull colour, with YC01 and YC03 being alternates for the upper hull which is either grey or blue, depending on the animation in the series. YC03 is also used for the small fighters carried in the internal hanger bay.

CS882 is used mainly for the original United Nations Cosmo fleet ships.

This set contains YC07, YC08 and YC09. YC07 and YC08 are the recommended colour choices for most of the solid-green Garmillas warships (destroyers, cruisers, etc) - YC07 and YC08 are alternatives; the colour scheme makes it your choice of which to use. YC09 is used by the leading 'fin' or 'ridge', which is darker on most of the warships.

The paints are in 10ml bottles, so whilst one box will probably be more than enough for a single Garmillas ship set, there's no way one box will be enough to do all of the released Garmillas ships.

CS884 contains the main (but not all) colours used by the Cosmo Zero fighters carried by the Yamato; YC10, YC11 and YC12.

The CS885 set contains YC13, YC14 and YC15. YC13 and YC14 are lighter greys which are used on the underside of the circular Garmillas ship, but YC15 is indicated to be used as the underside colour for one of the battleships in Garmillas Ship Set #2.

Set CS886 contains YC16, YC17 and YC18. These red tones are intended to be used with dark red Gelvades class astro carrier.

Set CS887 contains YC19, YC20 and YC21. These colours are used by the ship Desler uses to escape from the Garmillas homeworld at the end of the 2199 series.

The three colours in CS888; YC22, YC23 and YC24 are used by the two main Garmillas astro carriers - YC24 as the blue purple carrier hull colour, and YC23 as the green carrier hull colour. YC24 is a common runway colour used on both carriers.

The grey and white, YC25, YC26, are used in the Garmillas dreadnought, Domelaze. Blue colour YC27 is used on the blue Garmillas astro carrier.

This is just the matching table for the model sets listed above. It is not exhaustive. Check each model page for a list of actual colours used.
