 +After 30+ years, the original fan on the PSU, although working fine, had gotten to a point where it was unreasonably noisy.

 +Thankfully it's a standard 80x80x25mm fan in a clip-in housing:

 +All I needed to do was remove the old fan, slip in a new silent one and change the fan wiring from a standard 3-wire (+, -, speed) to the 2-wire header used in the PSU:
