Großer Hund

  • Manufacturer: Hasegawa
  • Part number: MK05
  • Year of production: 2011
  • Scale: 1/20
  • Series: Maschinen Krieger / SF3D
  • Kit type: Articulated model kit (>200 parts), poseable with polycaps
  • In-universe role: Humanoid Unmanned Interceptor, Strahl Democratic Republic forces
  • Build date: ???

I bought this kit new, from a seller on Yahoo Auctions Japan, using Buyee.com, in July 2021. It was cheap (£26) - less than the same model was showing in Hobby Link Japan for an upcoming production run of the same kit, so it was a no-brainer to pick up.

The Großer Hund (read that as Grosser, in UK English; literally 'big dog') is the basis of several autonomous humanoid robot designs used by the Strahl Democratic Replic forces to fight against the Mercenary armies.

The Großer Hund is the basic version; armour plates loosely covered a mechanical inner frame that is somewhat of a departure from the usual human-controlled powered suit designs. It mounts a power laser on its left arm and has several guided-missile launcher tubes on it's back - compared to most fighting suits, it is significantly more powerful.

The Dachshund variant is most similar to the Großer Hund, but has additional sensor built into the head, making it more effective at searching for and acquiring targets:

The Kyklop (aka Cyclops) is a heavily armed ground variant, featuring additional guided-missile launcher tubes and improved sensors like the Dachshund.

The Altair is a space based interceptor, sharing most of the features of the Großer Hund, without the Dachshund head sensors. I also have one of these in my collection.

The Vega is a space based interceptor, based on the upgraded sensor package of the Dachshund.

The Schwarzer Hund is another space based interceptor, virtually identical to the Vega with some minor updates.

Firstly, the box is pretty big - as big as the a decent sized Master Grade Gundam kit, and it is packed full - there are a total of nineteen frames of parts; there are some duplicates (two arms and two leg sprues), but there are also alternate version parts. It's definitely not a kit for the first time modeller.
