Miniatures & Painting - Rackham: Confrontation, Hybrid & Nemesis

Rackham was a producer of very fine miniatures in the early 2000's and had several game systems at the time; Confrontation (a typical tabletop miniatures game), Hybrid (a board game using a selection of figures from the tabletop), as well as a number of expansions (including Nemesis). They also produced a high-quality magazine (Cry Havoc!) to go along with their games, and the magazine was a source of additional items including expansions, scenery etc - very hard to find these days.

Sadly Rackham went through a number of unsuccessful changes (moving from fine metal miniatures to pre-painted plastic models, reinventing several of their gaming systems) and ended up going bust around 2005 or 2006 and most of the items are hard to get hold of now. A small number of companies still sell either original 'licensed' models, or straight-up recasts/reprints of the originals. Original boxes models turn up from time to time on Ebay, but are incredibly expensive.

A sad end for a company that arguably produced some of the most detailed metal fantasy figures of anyone - the vast majority still stand up some 20+ years later as a match for anything currently available.

• Alchemists of Dirz - 'bad guys' who are heavily into genetic manipulation… I guess you would call them an example of 'biopunk'
• Dwarves of Tir-Na-Bor - Typical dwarven faction, their heavier troops make use of steam powered weapons and armour
• Griffins - The most 'normal' faction of high-fantasy type humans, some not-so-subtle references to the Catholic church
• Ophidian Alliance - Reptilian snake faction
